| Heavy Duty GE   This General Electric 805 is the radio mentioned in the 'Shop an Story' section. This is one tough radio. I posted this radio to show how an hour or two of elbow grease can make a huge difference. The finish was in bad shape when we first got it. It was right down to the wood on it's sides but the internals were all there and in really good condition. We stripped off the years of cigarette smoke, nail polish, and cheap furniture wax with some brillo pads and mineral spirits. Stripped it right down to the remaining original finish. That is about the time we started to panic because it looked like the finish was completely ruined because of this. We pushed on and applied some antique furniture stain/dye on the entire case. It brought out the color and tone along with filling in the scratches and bare areas. We wipped all the extra off and let it dry. Once done we applied a fresh coat of furniture wax and finished. What a difference. The pictures do not do it justice. Granted a complete refinish with lacquer would be better, but slightly. For the small time and effort we put into it the results were worth it.
