Philco Model 46-420 'Hippo'
This real sharp looking Philco radio was really dusty. Once polished the none cracked bakelite case really showed it's marble pattern. It also has that real good deep sound to it. It even looks better with the lights off because of its back lit dial. A real nice well designed radio. Looking for a keeper? This is it.
Work Done
The radio has been completely recapped to last another lifetime. I stuffed the capacitor outside the chassis with a new capacitor, don't let the old Philco casing fool you! I replaced dried cracked rubber mounting grommets with new. See pictures.Case was and is free of cracks or chips. NO REPAIRS ON THIS PARTICULAR CASE A new polarized power plug was installed along with quality electrolytic capacitors to provide years of service. Tubes tested good, resistors were checked, and chassis was cleaned and polished as best as possible. Dial face was cleaned and polished. knobs original to set and where cleaned to a ruby luster. Good Points on radio
No cracks or chips in case, ever! Freshly polished marble cabinet and dial makes this radio beautiful. Highly sensitive and a great deep tone to audio. This is another great example of a Philco 'Hippo' radio. Stamps and tags on chassis are still present, see pictures. Chassis has been cleaned and fresh rubber grommets were installed. All wiring is in great shape including original plastic coated wire. Fresh Philco front decal with gold foil is beautiful and just adds to the set's charm.
Bad Points on radio
Bottom paper label is gone. Small tear in speaker, repaired with speaker glue with no sacrifice to audio. Few minor scratches on dial and case. Please see pictures to right. No back to radio. That is it!
